Here's
a tutorial on how to set up a scanned sketch into lineart
so you can color it in Photoshop. (I used photoshop 7.0
for this tutorial)
***********
1.
Scan your lineart by importing it into Photoshop (best at
a resolution of 300+ as this will allow you to put in more
detail)
2. Go to the menu and click "select" and then
"all" or hit "Ctrl+A"
3. Now hit "Ctrl+C" to copy your lineart
4. Now look for the channels tab on the little window in
the right bottom hand corner, and click it (this window
will also have a "layers" and "paths"
tab)
5.
On the bottom there is a button and it says "create
new channel". Click this and you should get a new channel
called "Alpha 1"
6. Select this channel (Alpha 1) and click "Ctrl+V"
to paste your lineart here
7. Now hit "Ctrl+i" to invert your image

8.
Click the "Layers" tab
9. Click on the button at the bottom that says "create
new layer" (name this your "lineart layer")

10.
Hit "Ctrl+D" to "deselect"
11. Go to the menu and click "select" and then
"load selection"

12.
In the "channel" option choose "Alpha 1"
and then click "ok"
13.
Now go to "edit" and choose "fill" and
choose "black"
14.
Click "Ctrl+D" to deselect again.
15. Select your first layer (your backround layer)
16.
Go to the menu and click "edit" and "fill"
and then choose "white"

17.
Now all you need to do is go to your layers tab, and click
"create new layer" and as long as this is between
your "backround layer" and "lineart"
layer, you can start coloring the pic. Usually it's better
to do one color for each layer (in case you have a lot of
detail, because as you probably know.. more layers = slow
crashing computer)
18.
And as you create new layers for different colors or different
sections (always keeping these between the "backround"
and "lineart" layer) you will eventually finish
your pic and you need only save it when it's completed!!!
